George Albert "Jay" Keyworth II (born November 11, 1939 – died August 23, 2017) was an American physicist. He was a very important scientist who worked for the U.S. government. From 1981 to 1986, he was the White House Science Advisor. This meant he gave scientific advice to the President of the United States. He also served on the board of a big technology company called Hewlett-Packard.

Early Life and Education
Jay Keyworth was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He loved science from a young age. He went to Yale University and earned a bachelor's degree in science. Later, he continued his studies at Duke University. In 1968, he earned his PhD in physics from Duke.
A Career in Science
After finishing his studies, Keyworth began working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This is a famous science lab in the United States. He worked hard and became the leader of the Physics Division there. This was a very important job.
White House Science Advisor
Because of his great work, Jay Keyworth was asked to become the Science Advisor to the President. He worked for the White House from 1981 to 1986. His job was to give scientific advice to President Ronald Reagan. He helped the government make decisions about science and technology.
Working with Hewlett-Packard
Keyworth also served on the board of directors for Hewlett-Packard (HP). HP is a large company that makes computers and other technology. He was a director there for many years, starting in 1986. He helped guide the company's decisions.
Leaving the HP Board
In 2005, there were some disagreements at HP. Information about the company's leaders was shared with the media. HP looked into who was sharing this information. Jay Keyworth was identified as someone who had talked to a reporter.
The company asked him to leave the board. Keyworth said he had not shared any secret information. Another board member, Tom Perkins, resigned because he disagreed with how Keyworth was treated. Keyworth officially left the HP board in September 2006. HP stated that Keyworth's talks with the press were often to help the company. They also said they were sorry for looking into his private communications.
Later Life and Death
After his time in government and with HP, Keyworth continued to be involved in science and technology. He passed away at his home in Monterey, California, on August 23, 2017. He was 77 years old.
