Sir George More (born November 28, 1553 – died October 16, 1632) was an important English courtier and politician. He served in the English Parliament many times. His career spanned from 1584 to 1625. He was a trusted figure in the royal court.

Early Life and Education
George More was born in London, England. His father was Sir William More of Loseley Park in Surrey. His mother was Margaret Daniell. She was from Norfolk.
Young George went to the Royal Grammar School, Guildford. He then studied at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He left Oxford before finishing his studies. In 1574, he joined the Inner Temple. This was a place for legal training.
He became a Justice of the Peace for Surrey and Sussex. This meant he helped keep law and order. He also served as a Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey.
Sir George More's Political Career
Sir George More had a long and active political life. He was elected to Parliament many times. He represented different areas.
Serving in Parliament
In 1584, More became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Guildford. He was re-elected for Guildford in 1586 and 1589. He also served as provost marshal for Surrey in 1589. This role involved military and police duties.
He was again MP for Guildford in 1593. In 1596, he became High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex. This was a key local government role. The next year, in 1597, he was elected MP for Surrey.
Royal Appointments and Knighthood
In February 1598, George More was knighted. This meant he was given the title "Sir." From 1601 to 1613, he held a significant job. He was Chamberlain of the Receipt in the Exchequer. This role managed royal finances.
He continued his parliamentary service. He was re-elected MP for Surrey in 1601. Then, he was MP for Guildford in 1604. He returned as MP for Surrey in 1614.
From 1615 to 1617, he had a very important position. He was Lieutenant of the Tower of London. This meant he was in charge of the famous Tower of London. He was elected MP for Surrey again in 1621. His final terms were as MP for Guildford in 1624 and Surrey in 1625.
