Civil War Week on History Channel
On February 9, 2011, the History Channel made a big announcement. They teamed up with the Civil War Trust and the National Park Foundation. This partnership was for something called GIVE 150. It was a huge effort to teach more about the Civil War. It also aimed to raise money. The money would help protect battlefields and other important places. These sites are from the Civil War time.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary, a whole week of shows was planned. This "Civil War Week" featured new and old episodes. They all focused on the war. In 2011, Civil War Week began on Memorial Day Monday. It started with war-themed episodes of Pawn Stars. After that came the first TV showing of Gettysburg.
Throughout that week, there were new episodes of American Pickers. Also, reruns of Brad Meltzer's Decoded and Modern Marvels aired. Another new documentary film, Lee & Grant, also premiered. It was directed by John Ealer.

Promoting the Film
Several companies helped sponsor the film. They also supported the Civil War Week project. These companies included Geico, Ram, and Bank of America.
To get many people to watch the Memorial Day special, History Channel used a cool idea. Ann Marie Granite, a senior director there, worked with Microsoft's Xbox 360. They wanted to promote the film to a wide audience. Xbox 360 users could download free content. They could also compete for prizes. There was an interactive map of Gettysburg. It showed historical facts about each day of the battle. There were also videos promoting the movie.
