Gial Ackbar facts for kids
Gial Ackbar was a brave admiral from the Star Wars universe. He was a Mon Calamari, a species from a water planet. Ackbar was a leader for the Rebel Alliance. He famously led the attack on the Death Star in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Ackbar came from the water planet Mon Cala. He led his people in a battle against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Many years later, he helped Mon Calamari cruisers escape from the Galactic Empire. These cruisers later became part of the Rebel Alliance fleet.
A Hero for the New Republic
After the Battle of Endor, Ackbar continued his military service. The Rebel Alliance changed into the New Republic. He led the Republic fleet to victory. This happened against the remaining Imperial forces at the Battle of Jakku. After this, he peacefully retired to his home planet.
During his retirement, Ackbar had a son named Aftab. About 25 years later, Princess Leia Organa asked for his help. She needed support against the growing threat of the First Order. Ackbar joined her Resistance movement.
Return to Battle

Later, the Resistance fleet was stopped by the First Order's fleet. Ackbar was killed during the attack that followed.
