Jakku is a made-up desert planet in the Star Wars universe. It first appeared in the 2015 movie The Force Awakens. Jakku is a tough, desert planet far away from everything, and it's where the main character Rey lives. Rey is played by Daisy Ridley. The movie shows two main places on Jakku: Tuanul Village and Niima Outpost. These places are close to a huge graveyard of old spaceships.

Jakku is also shown in Star Wars books, like Star Wars: Aftermath: Empire's End (2017) by Chuck Wendig.

The Rub' al Khali desert, where scenes for Jakku were filmed.

Jakku was first seen in a short preview video (called a teaser trailer) for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in November 2014. The movie's director, J. J. Abrams, announced the planet's name in April 2015. He said that Jakku was the setting for the scenes in the trailers and that it was where Rey lived.

Jakku is a very important place in The Force Awakens. It's a harsh desert planet on the edge of the galaxy. In the movie, a brave pilot named Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) comes to Jakku. He is looking for important information held by an explorer named Lor San Tekka (Max von Sydow). Poe gets caught by the bad guys, the First Order. But he hides the information with his little robot, BB-8.

Poe escapes with the help of a stormtrooper who changed sides, Finn (John Boyega). Their stolen spaceship crashes, and Poe is thought to be dead. Meanwhile, BB-8 becomes friends with Rey, who collects old junk. The First Order chases them, so Rey and Finn escape Jakku with BB-8 on the famous Millennium Falcon spaceship. Later in the movie, Rey has a vision where she sees herself being left on Jakku as a child.

Jakku also appears briefly in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Rey has a quick vision of her parents leaving her on the planet before they were killed. The planet is also shown at the end of the movie. A burning spaceship falls behind an old Star Destroyer, as people across the galaxy rise up against the First Order.

The scenes on Jakku were filmed in a real desert called Rub al Khali in the United Arab Emirates. When the movie was being planned, Jakku was first thought of as a "junk planet" filled with wreckage from older Star Wars movies. Some people have said that Jakku looks a lot like Tatooine, another desert planet from Star Wars.

Jakku in Books

Jakku was first mentioned in two books released in September 2015. These were Star Wars: Aftermath (2015) by Chuck Wendig and Lost Stars by Claudia Gray. Lost Stars describes parts of the Battle of Jakku. This was the final big fight between the Galactic Empire and the New Republic over the planet.

The Battle of Jakku is also shown in the book Empire's End (2017). This book explains that the evil Emperor Palpatine had a secret base on Jakku. From this base, he planned for the Empire to become the First Order if he died. This battle happened about a year after the Battle of Endor, which was shown in Return of the Jedi. It was the last major fight of the Galactic Civil War. Twenty-nine years later, around the time of The Force Awakens, the broken ships in the desert are called the Starship Graveyard.

Jakku is also mentioned in other Star Wars books and short stories. These include Rey's Survival Guide (2015) and The Weapon of a Jedi (2015).

Jakku in Video Games

The video game Star Wars Battlefront (2015) has extra content called Battle of Jakku. This content includes two multiplayer maps where players can fight on the planet. Jakku also appears in the story mode of the game's sequel, Star Wars Battlefront II (2017). It also has a multiplayer map called Jakku: The Graveyard.

Jakku is a location in two Lego Star Wars video games: Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2016) and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022). There is also a Lego Star Wars toy set called Encounter on Jakku.
