In the United States, you can find it naturally in only a few areas of western Texas. Here, it grows on rocky hillsides. But it is much more common in northern Mexico. It grows across a wide area there, including Coahuila, Durango, Zacatecas, and Nuevo León. Even though some local things might threaten it, the plant's overall population seems strong and healthy.
