Gilberton is a small town, also known as a borough, located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is about four miles (7 km) west of Mahanoy City. In 2020, about 583 people lived there.
Long ago, Gilberton was much bigger. In 1900, over 4,300 people lived there, and many worked in coal mining. This area has a lot of anthracite coal, which is a type of hard, black coal. The coal mining industry was very important to Gilberton's history.
