Glacier View is a small community in Alaska, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP) because it's a special area used for gathering information during a census. Glacier View is located in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. It's also part of the larger Anchorage area.
In 2020, about 375 people lived in Glacier View. This was more than the 234 people who lived there in 2010. A really cool fact about Glacier View is that it's only about three miles away from the end of the huge Matanuska Glacier.

About Glacier View
Glacier View is a unique place in Alaska. It offers amazing views of mountains and glaciers. The community is known for its beautiful natural surroundings.
Where is Glacier View?
Glacier View is located in the eastern part of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. You can find it at about 61 degrees North and 147 degrees West. To its east is the Eureka Roadhouse community. To its west is the Chickaloon community.
The town sits on the north side of the Matanuska River valley. A main road, Alaska Route 1 (also known as the Glenn Highway), runs through it. This highway can take you about 60 miles west to Palmer. Or, you can drive about 78 miles east to Glennallen.
The United States Census Bureau says that Glacier View covers a total area of about 234.3 square miles. Most of this area, about 232.1 square miles, is land. The rest, about 2.2 square miles, is water.

Winter Sports
When winter arrives, Skiing becomes a very popular activity. The tall Chugach Mountains around Glacier View are perfect for back-country skiing. This means skiing in natural, untouched areas. If you're looking for an even bigger thrill, Majestic Heli Ski offers special helicopter-guided ski trips. These trips take place during the winter months from the Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge.
Hiking Trails
You can go Hiking in Glacier View all year long. There are many trails to explore. Some trails are very close to the Glenn Highway, so you can walk to them easily. Other trails are a short and pleasant drive away. They offer different views and challenges for hikers of all levels.
Unique Local Event
Every year on the 4th of July, Glacier View hosts a very unusual event. It's called the Glacier View Car Launch! During this event, old cars are launched from a high cliff down to the beach below. It's a unique and exciting way the community celebrates the holiday.
