Glarus Island is a small, rocky island located in the icy waters of Antarctica. It's about 240 meters (787 feet) long and 130 meters (426 feet) wide. That's roughly the length of two and a half football fields! This island is found in Belimel Bay, which is on the southwest coast of Trinity Island. Trinity Island is part of the Palmer Archipelago.

The island gets its name from an ocean fishing trawler called Glarus. This ship belonged to a Bulgarian company named Ocean Fisheries – Burgas. The Glarus and other ships from this company fished in the waters around South Georgia, Kerguelen, the South Orkney Islands, South Shetland Islands, and the Antarctic Peninsula from the 1970s to the early 1990s. These Bulgarian fishermen, along with those from the Soviet Union, Poland, and East Germany, were among the first to start modern fishing in Antarctica.
