Glenn Martin Christopher Francis Quinn (born May 28, 1970 – died December 3, 2002) was an actor from Ireland. He was famous for playing Mark Healy in the 1990s TV show Roseanne. He also played Allen Francis Doyle in Angel. This show was a spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Early Life and Family

Glenn Quinn was born in Dublin, Ireland, on May 28, 1970. His parents were Bernadette and Murty Quinn. His dad was a musician in a band called the Miami Showband. They had many hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s.

Glenn grew up in a part of Dublin called Cabinteely. He went to Clonkeen College. In 1988, when he was 18, he moved to the United States. He moved with his mom and two sisters, Sonya and Louisa. They settled in Los Angeles. Glenn also had a brother named Ciaran. He never met Ciaran, who was adopted as a baby. Glenn only learned about him after his own death.

Acting Career Highlights

Glenn Quinn started his acting career in 1990. He appeared in TV commercials for Pepsi and Ray-Ban. He was also in the music video for the song "Satisfied" by Richard Marx.

His first speaking role was in the pilot episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. He had tried out for other roles many times. The casting director gave him a small part with two lines.

First Big Film Role

In 1991, Glenn got his first major movie role. It was in the musical film Shout. He acted alongside John Travolta and Heather Graham. He even shared a kiss with Gwyneth Paltrow in her first movie.

Popular TV Roles

In 1990, Glenn was cast in the TV show Roseanne. He played Mark Healy. This character was Becky Conner's boyfriend and later her husband. Glenn was a regular on the show from its third season until it ended in 1997.

While still on Roseanne, Glenn also starred in Covington Cross in 1992. In the same year, he acted with Holly Marie Combs in the horror movie Dr. Giggles. In 1997, he played two different characters in the horror movie Campfire Tales.

Playing Doyle in Angel

In 1999, Glenn got a role in Angel. This show was a spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He played Allen Francis Doyle, a half-demon character. For seven years on Roseanne, Glenn used an American accent. He was happy to use his natural Irish accent for Doyle. The show's creator, Joss Whedon, suggested it.

Joss Whedon had planned for Doyle's character to die early in the first season. But fans really loved the character. So, Whedon told Glenn that Doyle would have a "hero's exit." Glenn's last movie was a dark comedy called R.S.V.P. in 2002.

Passing and Tributes

Glenn Quinn passed away on December 3, 2002. He was 32 years old. He was found at a friend's home in North Hollywood, California.

When Roseanne returned for its tenth season in 2018, the show decided not to replace Glenn's character, Mark Healy. Instead, they wrote that Mark had passed away years ago. The show then introduced a new character named Mark Healy, who was the son of Darlene Conner and David Healy. The series honored Glenn at the end of an episode called "Eggs Over, Not Easy."

In 2019, the cast of Angel had a reunion for the show's 20th anniversary. Actor David Boreanaz shared his thoughts. He said that "Glenn played a great character, but also became a really close friend of mine. God rest his soul."
