Goat Fell (also called Goatfell by the Ordnance Survey) is the highest mountain on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Its name in Scottish Gaelic is Gaoda Bheinn.
This mountain is 874 metres (2,867 ft) tall. It is one of four special mountains on Arran known as Corbetts. A Corbett is a Scottish mountain between 2,500 and 3,000 feet high. Goat Fell and the nearby Brodick Castle are now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. This group works to protect important places in Scotland.
The name "Goat Fell" probably means 'Goat Mountain'. This comes from the old Norse word geita.

Climbing Goat Fell: Popular Routes
Goat Fell is a very popular mountain to climb. This is because Arran is often called "Scotland in miniature" due to its varied landscapes. There are many ways to reach the top of Goat Fell. You can even combine your climb with visits to other nearby peaks.
The most common way to climb Goat Fell is a path that is just over 5 km (3 miles) long. This path starts near Brodick Castle in a place called Cladach.
The Main Path from Brodick Castle
At first, the path goes through the woods around Brodick Castle. You will see many rhododendron bushes along the way. These plants have beautiful, colorful flowers.
When you are almost 300 metres (1,000 ft) above sea level, the path leaves the trees. From here, you walk through open moorland. The path then follows the east ridge of the mountain to reach the summit.
At the very top, there is a special table that helps you identify what you are seeing. On a clear day, you might even be able to see Northern Ireland!
Other Ways to the Top
There is another way to climb Goat Fell from the village of Corrie. This route is shorter and steeper than the main path. It eventually joins the main path on the east ridge.
You can also climb Goat Fell from the north side. From there, a ridge connects Goat Fell to a smaller peak called North Goatfell. From North Goatfell, three different ridges spread out.
