God of War: Ghost of Sparta is an exciting action-adventure video game where you fight many enemies. It was made by Ready at Dawn and released by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). The game first came out for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld console on November 2, 2010.

This game is the sixth one in the popular God of War series. It tells a story that happens fourth in the timeline of the games. The game is based on Greek mythology and takes place in ancient Greece. The main idea of the story is about getting revenge. You play as the hero, Kratos, who is the God of War. Kratos is still bothered by memories from his past as a human. He decides to find out more about where he came from. In the lost city of Atlantis, he meets his mother, Callisto. She tells him that his brother, Deimos, is still alive. Kratos then travels to the scary Domain of Death to save his brother. Even though Deimos is upset at first, the brothers team up. They fight against the God of Death, Thanatos, who had captured Deimos.

How to Play the Game

The way you play Ghost of Sparta is much like the other games in the series. It focuses on combo-based fighting. You use Kratos's main weapon, the Blades of Athena. Later in the game, you get a second weapon to use.

Combat and Special Moves

The game features special moments called quick time events. During these, you need to press certain buttons on your controller in a timed order. This helps you defeat strong enemies and big bosses. Kratos can also use up to three different magic attacks. He has a special ability that makes him stronger for a short time. These options give you more ways to fight.

Exploring and Solving Puzzles

Ghost of Sparta also has puzzles that you need to solve. There are also platforming parts where you jump and climb to get around. The fighting system in this game was improved. It offers about 25 percent more gameplay than the previous PSP game, God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Game's Success and Awards

Ghost of Sparta got many good reviews from game critics. They liked its story, the cool movie-like scenes, and how great the graphics looked. Some critics did say that the gameplay wasn't very new compared to Chains of Olympus.

What Critics Said

Many critics thought it was the best-looking game ever on the PSP. Some even said the game's graphics were as good as those on the PlayStation 3 (PS3). Others believed the graphics were even better than games on the PlayStation 2 (PS2).

Awards and Sales

Ghost of Sparta won several awards. It was named "Best Handheld Game," "Best PSP Game," and "PSP Game of Show" at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). It also won "Best Handheld Game" at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. At the 14th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, it won "Portable Game of the Year." By June 2012, the game had sold almost 1.2 million copies around the world. This made it the fifteenth best-selling PlayStation Portable game of all time.

Remastered Versions

Later, Ghost of Sparta was updated and released again. It was part of the God of War: Origins Collection on September 13, 2011. This version was for the PlayStation 3. It was also released again on August 28, 2012, as part of the God of War Saga, also for the PlayStation 3.
