History of Godwin
Godwin got its name from an early settler named Isaac William Godwin. He was one of the first people to make his home in this area.
Where is Godwin Located?
Godwin is found in the northeastern part of Cumberland County. A main road, U.S. Route 301, goes right through the town. This road can take you about 8 miles (13 km) northeast to Dunn. Or, if you go southwest, it's about 17 miles (27 km) to Fayetteville. Fayetteville is the main city in Cumberland County.
Another road, North Carolina Highway 82, crosses U.S. Route 301 in Godwin. This highway leads north to Erwin and southeast to Interstate 95. Interstate 95 is a major highway that runs along the East Coast of the United States.
The town of Godwin covers a total area of about 0.63 square miles (1.63 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Places to Worship
Godwin Presbyterian Church
The Godwin Presbyterian Church started in May 1904. It grew from a Sunday School that began even earlier, in 1889. The first church building could seat 200 people. Sadly, it burned down in 1934.
While a new church was being built, the members were invited to share the building of the Godwin Baptist Church. The new Godwin Presbyterian Church was finished in 1937. Every October, the church holds an annual homecoming event. The church grounds also have a "friendship garden" that is open for everyone to enjoy.
