The Story of Golden Eagle Syrup
How Golden Eagle Syrup Started
Golden Eagle Syrup was created in 1928 by Victor and Lucy Patterson. They lived in Fayette, Alabama. Victor wanted to make a gentle table syrup. Other syrups often upset his stomach.
Since maple syrup was hard to find, Victor made his own recipe. He mixed cane sugar, corn syrup, molasses, and honey. This blend created the unique Golden Eagle flavor.
Why the Name "Golden Eagle"?
The syrup was named after the Golden eagle. This name was chosen for two reasons. First, the syrup has a beautiful golden color. Second, an eagle flies high in the sky, showing strength and quality.
Growing the Business
The Pattersons first made the syrup in their own backyard. But soon, many people wanted to buy it. By 1944, they needed a bigger space. They bought an old grocery warehouse in downtown Fayette. This building became their new factory.
The Patterson family owned the company until 1986. After that, it had a few different owners. In 2011, Temple Bowling and John Blevins bought the company.
Where Golden Eagle Syrup is Made Today
Today, Golden Eagle syrup is still made in the same building bought in 1944. The syrup is produced on Tuesdays and Thursdays. About 500 gallons are made each production day.
In June 2019, the company started selling Golden Eagle Caramel Corn. You can also visit the factory to see how the syrup is made. Just make an appointment first!
What is Golden Eagle Syrup Used For?
Golden Eagle syrup is often used as a topping for pancakes or waffles. It's also a popular ingredient in baking. Many people use it to make delicious pecan pie.
Golden Eagle Syrup and Sports
Golden Eagle has also supported sports. In 2020, the company began sponsoring stock car racing driver Bret Holmes. He races in the ARCA Menards Series. Golden Eagle also sponsored the second-place team in the 2022 Dixie Softball World Series.
