Gorokan is a suburb located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It sits on the western shores of both Tuggerah Lake and Budgewoi Lake. Gorokan is part of the Central Coast Council, which is a local government area. This means it's managed by a local council that helps run the community.
The name "Gorokan" comes from the language of the Awabakal people. The Awabakal are an Aboriginal tribe from this area. In their language, "Gorokan" means "The Morning Dawn."
There are two schools in Gorokan for young people. These are Gorokan Public School and Gorokan High School.
History of Gorokan
Gorokan has a cool history, especially as a holiday spot! Back in 1923, the Quoy family bought land here. They built holiday homes and rented them out to people looking for a getaway. This shows that Gorokan has been a popular place for vacations for a long time.
Later, in 1956, other families like Gordon and Margaret Gedling also built holiday houses right on the waterfront. Imagine having a holiday home by the lake!
Electricity first came to Gorokan as part of a big project. This project cost $42,000 and helped bring power to homes and businesses in the area.
