About the Web Series
Gotham Girls was one of the first Flash animated shows made by a big cartoon company. It had professional voice actors, just like the TV shows. Using Flash animation meant the pictures looked clear and sharp on any screen.
Each episode often had a mini-game or puzzle you could play while it loaded. There were also interactive parts where you could help a character make a choice. The website also offered fun things like screensavers and desktop backgrounds.
Seasons and Storylines
The series had three seasons, with 10 episodes in each. A new episode came out every month. The first two seasons were mostly funny and lighthearted.
The third season became more serious. It connected directly to the movie Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero. The character Zatanna was not in this season. Instead, new characters like Detective Renee Montoya joined the cast. Each episode in season three linked to the next, creating a longer mystery story.
This season also explored more serious topics. These included problems within the Gotham City Police Department. It also showed Poison Ivy's fight to protect the environment. Commissioner Gordon also struggled with his trust in superheroes. It's thought that the series takes place in the DC animated universe. The third season also introduced new characters, like Detective Selma Reesedale, who was a groundbreaking character for the show.
The final episode, "Cold Hands, Cold Heart," aired in 2002. It wrapped up the mystery and marked the end of the website. The episode was dedicated to Hilary J. Bader, a writer for many DC animated shows, who passed away in 2002. The Gotham Girls website is no longer online.

Comic Book Series
DC Comics also made a five-issue Gotham Girls comic book miniseries in 2003. Paul Storrie wrote the comics. The main characters were Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Batgirl. Each issue focused a bit more on one of these characters.
The story was also set in the DC animated universe. It was about a special vial of chemicals that the three villainesses fought over. They also tried to avoid being caught by Batgirl and Detective Montoya. Later, a three-issue miniseries called Batman: Harley and Ivy continued the adventures of Harley and Ivy.
DVD Release
You can find the complete Gotham Girls series as a bonus feature. It was included on the DVD release of the Birds of Prey television series. This DVD came out on July 15, 2008. On the DVD, the episodes play one after another. The interactive parts where you could make choices were not included.
