Exploring Grâce-Hollogne: Its Districts
The town of Grâce-Hollogne is made up of several smaller areas, or districts. These districts used to be separate towns. They are:
- Bierset
- Grâce-Berleur
- Hollogne-aux-Pierres
- Horion-Hozémont
- Velroux
A part of another town, Mons-lez-Liège, also joined Grâce-Hollogne.
A Glimpse into History
Grâce-Hollogne was formed when these smaller towns and parts of towns came together. This happened a while ago, bringing different communities into one larger municipality.
One important event in the history of Grâce-Berleur (one of Grâce-Hollogne's districts) happened on July 30, 1950. During this time, there was a big political discussion in Belgium known as the "Royal Question." This was about whether King Leopold III should remain king after World War II. Sadly, during a protest in Grâce-Berleur, four people lost their lives. This event was a very sad and important moment in that political discussion.
Economy: How People Work and Live
Grâce-Hollogne is an active place for business, especially because of Liège Airport. The airport is a major hub for cargo flights, meaning many goods are flown in and out of Belgium from here.
One company, Avient Aviation, has its main offices for Continental Europe right on the airport property. This shows how important the airport is for jobs and business in the area.
