Liège Airport, also known as Liège-Bierset, is a very important airport in Belgium. It is mostly used for carrying goods (cargo) all over the world. At the end of 2007, it was the 8th biggest cargo airport in Europe. It was also the 38th biggest cargo airport in the world.

The city of Liège is in the middle of a special area. This area is sometimes called the golden triangle. It connects three big cities: Paris, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt. About 66% of all European cargo passes through this area. If you add London to this group, it goes up to 75%! This makes Liège Airport a very important place for international trade.

The airport is located in the northwest part of Liège, in eastern Belgium. Even though it's mainly for cargo, it also has flights for people. You can fly to more than 21 different places from here. These are often charter flights. This means they are specially arranged trips, not regular scheduled flights.

Liège Airport is a main hub for several cargo airlines. It is the world hub for TNT Airways. It is also the European hub for CAL Cargo Air Lines, El Al Cargo, and Ethiopian Cargo. These airlines often use planes from Southern Air. The airport is also a regular stop for planes that need to refuel. For example, planes from Kalitta Air often stop here on their way from New York City to the Middle East. This includes flights carrying US mail to Baghdad.
