Granite is a small community in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. Granite is located next to the city of Sandy on its eastern side.
In the year 2000, about 2,018 people lived in Granite. This number was lower than in 1990 because some parts of Granite were added to Sandy. Salt Lake County has a special "Granite Community Council" that helps with planning and development for the area. This council also includes the beautiful Little Cottonwood Canyon, stretching all the way to popular ski resorts like Snowbird and Alta.

History of Granite
Granite's story began in 1859. It was first used as a place to get stone for building the famous Salt Lake Temple. This temple is a very important building for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
By 1877, more people had moved to the area. Many of them were farmers. A local church group, called an LDS ward, was also created around that time.
Geography and Location
Granite covers a total area of about 1.5 square miles (3.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within its boundaries.
A big part of Granite's land stretches into the scenic Little Cottonwood Canyon. This canyon is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities.
