Grantville is a neighborhood located in the city of San Diego, in California, United States. It is considered a middle-class area. Grantville shares borders with other communities like Allied Gardens, San Carlos, Tierrasanta, and Mission Valley East.

History of Grantville
Grantville is one of the oldest communities in San Diego. It is also one of the oldest places settled by Europeans in California. The first European settlement in California started in San Diego in 1769. This was in the area now known as Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
The original mission, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, was moved in 1774. It was relocated to what is now the Grantville area. Today, the restored Mission is a very important landmark. It is also a popular place for tourists to visit in Grantville. This historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as a place important to the history of the United States.
In the late 1800s, the area became known as Grantville. This name was chosen to honor Ulysses S. Grant, who was a U.S. President. Grantville officially became part of the city of San Diego over several years, from 1948 to 1954.
The community is also the main entrance to Mission Trails Regional Park. This large park was created in 1974.
For a while, Grantville was part of a special plan called the Grantville Redevelopment Project Area. The city of San Diego started this project in 2005. Its goal was to improve the area. However, the state of California ended all such redevelopment areas in 2012. The City of San Diego then took over any remaining projects in Grantville.
Getting Around Grantville
The main roads in Grantville are Friars Road and Mission Gorge Road. Friars Road also serves the nearby Mission Valley area. Mission Gorge Road leads north into Mission Trails Regional Park. South of Interstate 8, it joins with Fairmount Avenue.
Grantville also has public transit options. These include San Diego Transit buses that run along the main roads. The San Diego Trolley's Green Line also serves the area. The Grantville station for the trolley is located on Alvarado Canyon Road, close to Fairmount Avenue and Interstate 8.
Schools in Grantville
Students in Grantville attend schools within the San Diego Unified School District. The neighborhood has two schools:

Older students from Grantville go to Patrick Henry High School. This high school is located in the nearby community of Del Cerro.
Businesses and Local Spots
Grantville is mostly a place for businesses and light industries. This means you can find many different types of companies here. These range from recording studios to large stores like Home Depot. There are also many smaller shops, service companies, and factories.
The Kaiser Permanente Hospital is a very important employer in Grantville. It includes the hospital itself, along with many clinics and offices.
Grantville is also home to several craft breweries. These include San Diego Brewing Company, Benchmark, and Groundswell.
