Grave with a burial vault ready for a coffin

A grave is a place where a person or animal is buried after they have died. It's usually a hole dug in the ground. Graves are often found in special areas called cemeteries or graveyards. A headstone is often placed at the grave to show who is buried there and important dates like their birth and death.

Families often hold a funeral service before a burial. This helps them remember the person who died. The name on the grave usually belongs to the person buried beneath it. For example, the famous writer William Shakespeare was buried in England.
