A Look Back in Time
Gravois Mills was first planned out in 1884. It got its name from a gristmill that was close by on Gravois Creek. A gristmill is a place where grain is ground into flour. The town has had a post office since 1860, which means people have been sending and receiving mail there for a very long time!
An important old building in the area is the Old St. Patrick's Church. This church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This list helps protect important historical sites across the country.

Gravois Mills is located in the southern part of Morgan County. It sits near the upper end of the Gravois Creek arm, which is a part of the large Lake of the Ozarks.
Missouri Route 5 is a main road that goes right through the town. If you travel north on this road for about 9 miles, you'll reach Versailles. Versailles is the main town, or county seat, for Morgan County. If you go south on Route 5 for about 12 miles, you'll arrive at Sunrise Beach.
The town covers a total area of about 0.82 square miles (2.13 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, but a small part, about 0.08 square miles (0.21 square kilometers), is water. The town is on the southwest side of the Gravois Creek arm of the Lake of the Ozarks. It's about 10 miles upstream from where the arm meets the Osage River.
