Greater Beedelup National Park is a beautiful national park in Western Australia. It is located about 277 km south of Perth. You can find it on the Vasse Highway, just 10 km west of Pemberton. This park is very green and wet because it gets a lot of water.

The park was officially created in 1915. Since 1957, the Pemberton National Parks Board has helped look after it. The name 'Beedelup' might come from the Noongar word Beejalup. This word means 'place of rest' or 'place of sleep'.

Amazing Trees and Plants

This park is mostly covered in tall karri forests. You can also find areas with jarrah and marri trees. The soil here is rich and damp. This helps many plants grow, like moss and swamp peppermint.

Other plants that love the wet conditions include hibbertia and karri hazel. You might also spot waterbush, myrtle wattle, and lemonscented Darwinia. Some parts of the forest are very old and have never been cut down. Higher up, where the soil is sandy, you can find heath plants.

Wildlife in the Park

Greater Beedelup National Park is home to some rare animals. These include the Woylie, the Numbat, and the Tammar. These animals are very special and need protection.

Cool Things to See

Beedelup Falls

The main attraction in the park is the stunning Beedelup Falls. They look their best during winter and spring when there's lots of water. You can cross a cool suspension bridge, built in 1995, to get great views of the falls. It's a perfect spot for photos!

Walk-Through Karri Tree

Another amazing feature is the 'walk-through karri tree'. This tree is about 400 years old! It has a big hole cut through its base. The hole is large enough for a person to stand inside it. It's a unique experience to walk right through a giant tree!

Visitor Information

There is a small fee to enter Greater Beedelup National Park. Camping is not allowed inside the park. However, there are many facilities for visitors to enjoy their day.

You can follow a signed walking trail around Beedelup Falls. There is also a rest area, a picnic area, and toilets available for everyone. It's a great place to spend a day exploring nature.
