Green Valley is a small, unincorporated community located in Fairview Township, within Lyon County, Minnesota, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
This community is found between the cities of Marshall and Cottonwood. It's also close to where Minnesota State Highway 23 (MN 23) meets Lyon County State-Aid Highway 8.
History of Green Valley
Green Valley was officially planned and mapped out in 1888. This process is called "platting." It was given its name because it sits in a green valley near the Redwood River.
A post office was opened in Green Valley in 1889. This post office served the community for many years. It continued to operate until 1964, when it finally closed.
