The green cochoa (Cochoa viridis) is a beautiful bird that lives in parts of Asia. Scientists used to think it was related to thrushes or flycatchers. Now, they believe it's more closely related to thrushes. This bird is known for its striking green color.

What Does the Green Cochoa Look Like?
This bird, found in the Himalayas, is mostly moss green. The male green cochoa is quite colorful! It has a bright blue crown (top of its head), blue wings, and a blue tail with a wide black stripe.
The female green cochoa is a bit different. Her body is more greenish. She also has some rusty spots on her wing feathers. Her wing edges are yellowish-brown with very thin blue lines, unlike the male's. Some green cochoas have a white band on the sides of their neck. Young birds have dark lines on their body feathers.
Where Do Green Cochoas Live?
The green cochoa can be found in several countries. These include Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. They might also live in Bhutan.
They prefer to live in certain types of forests. You can find them in warm, wet lowland forests. They also live in moist mountain forests. These birds sometimes move from one place to another depending on the season. However, scientists don't fully understand these movements yet. For example, in India, they are only seen in summer.
Green Cochoa Behaviour
Green cochoas are usually seen in pairs or small groups. They often sit quietly in tall trees. When they look for food, they usually stay close to the ground. Their diet includes small creatures like snails and insects. They also enjoy eating berrys. Sometimes, they fly out to catch insects in the air, like a quick darting motion.
Reproduction and Life Cycle
This bird species lays its eggs in the summer. Their nests are similar to those of the purple cochoa. They usually build their nests close to water. Both the mother and father bird take turns sitting on the eggs to keep them warm.
The eggs are shiny and oval-shaped. They have many small speckles on them.
