History of Industry
Greengate has a long history with big factories. A British company called Avro built a large factory here. This happened between 1938 and 1939. Avro was famous for making aircraft.
The Avro Factory
The Avro factory was one of the biggest employers in the area. Many people worked there. Later, Avro became part of a company called BAE Chadderton. This factory continued to operate for many years.
In 2012, the BAE factory closed down. Later that same year, an American company bought it. This company is called NOV. NOV works in the oil and gas industry around the world.
