Gregorio de Montalvo Olivera (1529 – 11 December 1592) was an important leader in the Catholic Church. He was a bishop, which is a high-ranking church official. He served as the Bishop of Cuzco in Peru from 1587 to 1592. Before that, he was the Bishop of Yucatán in Mexico from 1580 to 1581.

Biography

Gregorio de Montalvo Olivera was born in 1529 in a town called Coca, Segovia in Spain. He became a priest in a religious group known as the Order of Preachers, also called the Dominicans.

In 1580, when Pope Gregory XIII was the leader of the Catholic Church, Gregorio was chosen to be the Bishop of Yucatán. This area is now part of Mexico. He officially became a bishop in 1581.

A few years later, in 1587, Pope Sixtus V appointed him to a new role. Gregorio became the Bishop of Cuzco, a city in what is now Peru. He continued to serve as the Bishop of Cuzco until he passed away on December 11, 1592, at the age of 63.
