Grojband is a fun animated TV show from Canada. It was created by Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton. The show is about a garage band trying to become famous. It was first shown in the United States on June 10, 2013. In Canada, it started on September 5, 2013.

What is Grojband About?

Grojband tells the story of a Canadian indie rock band. The band is made up of four best friends: Corey Riffin, Laney, Kin, and Kon. They want their band to become super famous around the world.

The band often needs song lyrics. Corey and his friends have a special way to get them. They make Corey's sister, Trina, very emotional. When she's upset, she writes in her diary. Corey then uses her diary entries as ideas for their songs. This helps them perform perfect songs!

Meet the Characters

The Grojband Members

  • Corey Jaron Riffin (voiced by Lyon Smith) – Corey is 13 years old. He is the confident and cheerful leader of Grojband. He sings and plays the guitar. Corey is always looking for new places for the band to play. He often makes his sister Trina angry to get her to write in her diary. He needs her diary for song lyrics because he can't think of his own.
  • Laney Penn (voiced by Bryn McAuley) – Laney is the bassist and also sings for Grojband. She calls herself the band's manager. Laney is a short, sarcastic, and determined redhead. She is the only girl in the band. Laney is usually the most sensible one. She cares about her friends but often goes along with Corey's plans. She secretly likes Corey, but he doesn't notice.
  • Kin Kujira (voiced by Sergio Di Zio) – Kin is the Japanese keyboardist of the band. He is Kon's smaller twin brother and wears glasses. Kin acts a bit strange, but he is very smart. He is great with technology. Kin often builds cool gadgets to help the band with their shows.
  • Kon Kujira (voiced by Tim Beresford) – Kon is the Japanese drummer of the band. He is Kin's larger twin brother. Kon can be a bit slow sometimes, but he is very strong. He is usually kind and has a happy, excited personality.

The Newmans: Grojband's Rivals

The Newmans are another band that looks like Grojband, but with opposite genders. They are Grojband's main rivals. They often compete for the same shows or in contests. The same voice actors play both Grojband and The Newmans.

  • Carrie Beff – She is like Corey, the leader, guitarist, and singer of The Newmans. Carrie is also Mina's younger sister. Corey and Carrie are big rivals. They both want to see the other fail. But sometimes, they work together if they have to.
  • Larry (Lenny) Nepp – He is like Laney, the bassist and manager of The Newmans. Larry seems to have a crush on Carrie, just like Laney likes Corey. He is not as brave as Laney.
  • Kim Kagami – She is like Kin, the keyboardist of The Newmans. In one episode, Kin and Kim joined together. They both seemed a little jealous of how close their twin siblings were.
  • Konnie Kagami – She is like Kon, the drummer of The Newmans. In one episode, Kon and Konnie showed they could get along well in certain situations.

Other Important Characters

  • Katrina “Trina” Riffin (voiced by Alyson Court) – Trina is Corey's 16-year-old sister. She is often mean and self-centered. She always tries to make Corey's life difficult. Trina is the main bad guy in the show. She tries to ruin Grojband's performances. When she feels strong emotions (like anger, joy, or fear), she writes in her diary. This is how Grojband gets their song lyrics. She likes a boy named Nick Mallory.
  • Bernadette (Mina) Beff (voiced by Denise Oliver) – Mina is a shy and innocent 14-year-old girl. She thinks Trina is her best friend, but Trina treats her more like a helper. Mina is much nicer than Trina. She wants to be cool like Trina and does whatever Trina tells her. She is also Carrie's older sister.
  • Nick Mallory (voiced by Graeme Cornies) – Nick is a very cool and good-looking 16-year-old boy. All the girls at school like him, especially Trina. He often talks about himself in the third person (using his own name instead of "I"). He isn't usually a bad guy and sometimes helps the band.
  • Kate Persky and Allie Day (voiced by Addison Holley and Madelyn May) – Allie and Kate are 9-year-old groupies. They are Grojband's biggest fans. They really like Corey and will do anything for him. But sometimes, they can be a bit too intense or obsessive.
  • Mayor Mellow (voiced by Kedar Brown) – He is the small mayor of Peaceville. He always carries a picture of his mother. He speaks in rhymes. He wants what's best for his town, but his ideas can be strange or extreme. He also gets angry easily and jumps to conclusions too fast.
  • Buzz Newsworthy and Chance Happening (voiced by Dwayne Hill and Julie Lemieux) – They are the news reporters for Peaceville News. They quickly report on important events. However, they tend to make stories sound more exciting than they are. They sometimes argue about who is better at their job.

Characters Who Appear Often

  • Barney (voiced by Rob Tinkler) – A very rich billionaire who owns many businesses in Peaceville. His name changes depending on where he works. For example, at the salad restaurant, he's "Salad Barney."
  • Party Danimal (voiced by Christian Potenza) – He is a school party critic. He rates parties out of "10 Awesomes."
  • Captain Tighty Whitey (voiced by Rob Tinkler) – A pirate captain who loves to steal things and find treasure.
  • G'ORB (voiced by Rob Tinkler) – An evil alien space orb who wants to destroy the world. He leads a band called The Orb Experience. He was a minor character at first but returned in the season finale. He tried to cheat in a battle of the bands, but his bandmate T'ORB stopped him. T'ORB made G'ORB apologize and become good.
  • Chloe (character is muted) - A tall redhead girl seen in many episodes. She is often in crowds. Chloe seems to like Nick Mallory and sometimes Party Danimal. The show's co-creator said she is Laney's older sister, but this is not official in the show.
