Moran Township is in the middle of Mackinac County. It sits along the northeast shore of Lake Michigan. The very end of the township touches the Straits of Mackinac. These straits connect Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
The city of St. Ignace is right next to the township on its southeast side. The total area of Moran Township is about 134.42 square miles (348.1 km²). Most of this area, about 127.57 square miles (330.4 km²), is land. The rest, about 6.85 square miles (17.7 km²), is water.
Small Communities in Moran Township
Moran Township is home to a few smaller communities. These are not separate cities but are places where people live.
- Brevort is a small community along U.S. Route 2. It is about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of St. Ignace. Even though it's called Brevort, it's not part of Brevort Township. That township is next to Moran Township.
- Gros Cap is another small community. It is right on Lake Michigan. You can find it about 5 miles (8 km) west of St. Ignace.
- Ozark is a historic place in the township. Not many people live there now. It used to be a site for making charcoal. It also had a post office from 1884 to 1966. The name "Ozark" comes from an old French phrase, Aux Arc, which means "at the bend."
