Grose Vale is a quiet suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's part of the City of Hawkesbury. Long ago, it was called South Kurrajong. Grose Vale is home to many old and interesting properties. These include "Lemon Forest," which once belonged to the Lamrock family. Other historic homes were owned by the Dunston and Ezzy families.

Who Lives in Grose Vale?

In 2016, a survey showed that 1,265 people lived in Grose Vale. Most of these residents, about 83%, were born in Australia. Also, most people, about 90.5%, spoke only English at home. When it came to religion, the most common choices were Catholic (31.4%), Anglican (25.7%), and No Religion (21.6%).

Exploring Grose Vale's Landscape

Grose Vale is mostly made up of large, semi-rural properties. These properties are usually between 5 and 10 acres in size. You can enter the suburb by driving along Grose Vale Road. This road comes from Grose Wold in the east and the village of Kurrajong in the north.

Local Facilities and Services

Grose Vale has a very natural feel. You won't find many footpaths here, and streetlights are few. This adds to its peaceful, country atmosphere.

Water and Waste Services

Some parts of Grose Vale, especially those closer to Kurrajong, have town water. They might also have sewer lines for waste. However, most people in Grose Vale get their water from tanks. These tanks collect rainwater, or water can be delivered by trucks. For waste, most homes use septic tanks. These systems safely treat and dispose of household wastewater.

Shops and Community Spots

At the corner of Grose Vale Road and Grose Wold Road, there's a small hub of services. This area has a general store and a petrol station, which now operates as Lucky 7. The post office is also located inside this new store. You can also find a hairdresser here. For bigger grocery shopping, the nearest supermarkets are about a 7-minute drive away. You can find them in Kurrajong or North Richmond.

Grose Vale is home to Grose View Public School, a government primary school. There's also a community centre hall for local events. The suburb has a rural fire station on Cabbage Tree Road, which helps keep everyone safe. Young people can also join a Cub and Scout Pack here.

Internet and Power

Telephone and power lines in Grose Vale run above the ground. Because the area is hilly and has many trees, power outages can happen during storms. For internet, residents use ADSL2 broadband. The main telephone exchange is located near the general store. If you want subscription television, you'll need a satellite dish. Cable television is not available in Grose Vale yet.

Amazing Wildlife

The Blue Mountains National Park is right next to Grose Vale, to the south and west. This means many native Australian animals visit the suburb. You might spot wallabies hopping around. The skies are filled with colorful birds like the Australian king parrot, kookaburras, rosellas, and rainbow lorikeets. You can also hear the calls of bellbirds, galahs, and cockatoos.

Grose Vale's Climate

Winters in Grose Vale can sometimes get very cold, dropping below zero degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit). However, this is not very common. Summer days can get quite hot, reaching into the mid-40s Celsius (over 110 degrees Fahrenheit). When it's hot, dry, and windy, there's a high risk of bushfires. Local fire services work hard to keep the community safe during these times.
