Grums Municipality (Grums kommun) is a local area in Värmland County, located in west central Sweden. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is Grums. About 5,200 people live in the town of Grums.

Like many other municipalities in Sweden, Grums Municipality was created in 1971. It was formed by combining the market town of Grums (which became a market town in 1948) with the areas of Ed and Värmskog.

Geographically, Grums Municipality is located on the northwest shore of Lake Vänern. This is one of the largest lakes in Sweden. Getting around is easy because the important road, European route E18, goes right through the town.

History and Symbols

Historically, the town of Grums was the center of an old legal area called Grums Hundred. The oldest symbol, or "seal," for this area dates back to 1617. This old seal showed a clear picture of the local church.

The coat of arms (a special symbol for the municipality) comes from this old hundred. It also shows three saw-blades. These saw-blades are a symbol of the important forest industry in the area. This shows that working with wood and forests has always been a big part of Grums' history.

Local Politics

Grums Municipality has its own local political party called Grums medborgarparti, which means Grums Citizens' Party. It is often shortened to gm. This party was started in 1994. It became the third largest party in the municipality during the elections of 1994 and 1998.

Towns and Villages

Here are some of the main towns and villages in Grums Municipality:

  • Grums (This is the main town, or seat)
  • Slottsbron
  • Segmon
  • Borgvik
  • Liljedal

There is also a small village called Värmskog. In the year 2000, about 65 people lived there. Värmskog is famous for being the birthplace of Lars Magnus Ericsson. He was a well-known inventor who founded the company Ericsson, which makes phones and other communication technology.

Population and Community

In 2022, Grums Municipality had about 9,080 residents in total. Out of these, about 6,952 were Swedish citizens old enough to vote.

When people voted in the 2022 Swedish general election, about 49.1% voted for the left-leaning political groups. About 49.9% voted for the right-leaning political groups. This shows that the community has a fairly even split in political views.

The municipality also tracks how many people are working and their income. For example, in some areas like Grums N, about 86% of people aged 20-64 were working. The average monthly income for adults in the municipality was around 24,000 Swedish kronor. Many people also have a degree from college or university, showing a good level of education in the community.
