Guayabos is a small area, called a barrio, in the town of Isabela, Puerto Rico. It is located on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,475 people lived there.
History
Guayabos has an interesting past. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 818 people lived in Guayabos barrio at that time. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the table below.
