Gunn City is a small village located in Cass County, Missouri, in the United States. It is part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area, which is a big group of cities and towns. In 2020, about 80 people lived here.

History of Gunn City

Gunn City was officially planned and marked out in 1871. It got its name from O. B. Gunn. He was an engineer who worked for the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad.

In 1872, something important happened in Gunn City. It is sometimes called the "Gunn City Incident." Local people were very upset about some unfair dealings. These dealings involved officials of a company building a rail line to Santa Fe. The citizens took strong action to stop these unfair practices.

Gunn City is a very small place. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 0.21 square kilometers (0.08 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.

Gunn City in 2010

The census in 2010 counted 118 people living in Gunn City. There were 34 homes, and 27 of these were families. The village had about 1475 people per square mile. There were 36 housing units in total.

Most of the people in Gunn City were White, making up almost 90% of the population. A small number were African American or Pacific Islander. About 8.5% of residents were from two or more racial backgrounds. Less than 1% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.

Many homes had children under 18 living there, about 50%. More than half of the homes were married couples living together. Some homes had a female head of household without a husband. A few homes had a male head of household without a wife. About 20% of homes were not families.

The average age of people in the village was 33 years old. About one-third of the residents were under 18. A small group, 7.5%, were between 18 and 24 years old. About 30% were between 25 and 44.
