History of Gurabo Arriba
Becoming Part of the United States
A long time ago, after the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. After this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States.
Early Population Count
In 1899, the United States government did a special count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that the total number of people living in Gurabo Arriba and a nearby barrio called Caimito was 1,295.
