Early Life
Hadas Yaron was born in Israel to a secular Jewish family, which means her family was not strictly religious. She grew up in the city of Tel Aviv. As a teenager, she studied theater at a special arts high school.
After high school, Yaron served for two years in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In Israel, it is required for most young women to serve in the military. Yaron worked in the education system as a guide for children and teenagers at a boarding school. She said her time in the army felt "like a pause in your life."
Acting Career
"This is what ruins everything: fear... I said to myself, 'they are giving you an opportunity to read lines and to act,' so that helped me in a lot of auditions."
Hadas Yaron started acting when she was eight years old. At age 14, she was cast in her first movie, Out of Sight. The film is about a young blind woman trying to understand why her cousin died. Yaron played the cousin in flashback scenes.
While starting her career, Yaron worked as a waitress in a Tel Aviv coffee shop to support herself. She thought it was funny to wear a fancy gown for an event one night and then be back serving coffee the next day.
Breakthrough with Fill the Void
In 2010, Yaron auditioned for the movie Fill the Void and got the lead role of Shira. The director, Rama Burshtein, said she knew she had found her Shira as soon as Yaron started her audition.
The movie is about a Haredi Jewish family in Tel Aviv. The Haredi are a community of very religious Jews. In the story, Yaron's character, 18-year-old Shira, is asked to marry her older sister's husband after her sister passes away. To prepare for the role, Yaron learned about Orthodox Jewish traditions and attended events like weddings to understand the lifestyle.
The movie was a big success, and critics loved Yaron's performance. In 2012, she won Best Actress at both the Ophir Awards in Israel and the Venice Film Festival in Italy.
Later Roles
In 2013, Yaron joined the cast of the Israeli TV show Shtisel. She played Libbi, the cousin of the main character, Akiva. The show became popular around the world after it was added to Netflix.
In 2014, she starred in the Canadian movie Felix and Meira, where she again played a Haredi woman. A famous magazine, Variety, praised her performance, saying she had a natural glow and showed her character's journey of self-discovery.
In 2018, Yaron appeared as Sarah in the movie Mary Magdalene. More recently, she starred in the 2024 Hulu series We Were the Lucky Ones alongside actors like Logan Lerman and Joey King.
