Haddington Hill, also known as Wendover Hill, is a special place in the Chiltern Hills of England. It is the highest point in the county of Buckinghamshire. Imagine standing on top of the world in this area! Near Haddington Hill, you'll find Coombe Hill. But be careful, there are two places with this name! One is on the north-eastern side of Haddington Hill, and another is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) to the south-west.
The Forestry Commission owns Haddington Hill. This means they look after the land and the trees. A big part of the hill is covered by Wendover Woods. These woods are full of paths and tracks, perfect for exploring. You can even find a car park close to the top of the hill. Because the very top is quite flat, it can be a bit tricky to find the exact highest spot. But don't worry! If you explore the woods east of the car park, you'll discover some large stones. These stones have "The Chiltern Summit" carved into them, marking the general highest area.
Exploring Haddington Hill
Haddington Hill is easy to visit. You can drive almost all the way to the top! There's a car park conveniently located near the special summit stones. If you prefer to walk, you can also hike up the hill. Many people enjoy walking or cycling through the beautiful Wendover Woods.
Pavis Wood: A Nearby High Point
Just to the east of Haddington Hill, you'll find Pavis Wood. This area is interesting because it holds the highest point of another county, Hertfordshire. This spot is 244 meters (801 feet) high. It sits right on the border between Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
