2021–2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Most Popular Driver

Hailie Rochelle Deegan (born July 18, 2001) is an American professional racing driver. She currently competes in the Indy NXT series for HMD Motorsports. Before that, she was well-known for racing stock cars in NASCAR. Her last NASCAR team was AM Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Hailie started her racing journey off-road and on dirt tracks. In 2016, she switched to asphalt racing to pursue a career in stock car racing. She began her NASCAR career in 2018 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. She made history as the first female driver to win races in the West Series, with victories in 2018 and 2019. Hailie is the daughter of famous motorcycling and off-road racer Brian Deegan. In 2025, Hailie moved to open-wheel racing to compete in Indy NXT.

Hailie Deegan started riding dirt bikes when she was seven years old. For her eighth birthday, she received a Trophy Kart, which led her to start competing in short course off-road racing. In 2009, she won her very first race in the SXS Stadium Series' Trophy Kart class. She also raced in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS).

In 2013, Hailie became the first female driver to win a LOORRS championship. She won in the Junior 2 Karts class. She continued to excel, becoming the Modified Kart Regional Champion in 2015. The next year, she won the Modified Kart National Championship. In 2016, she was also named the Lucas Oil Off Road Driver of the Year. Hailie raced full-time in the Pro Lite division of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in 2017. She is one of only four women to ever win a LOORRS class championship.

Even after moving to pavement racing, Hailie sometimes returned to off-road events. In December 2021, she raced in the Nitro Rallycross side-by-side (SXS) class. She also made her Mint 400 debut in March 2022, racing in the Unlimited Truck Spec class.

Asphalt Racing Journey

In 2016, Hailie began her shift to asphalt racing. She drove legends cars for Rev Racing. In 2017, she made her debut in asphalt late model racing. She competed in two CARS Super Late Model Tour races.

NASCAR Career Highlights

Hailie was part of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program in 2016. The next year, she received the NASCAR Diversity Young Racer award. In May 2017, she was chosen for the 2017 NASCAR Next class. She was the youngest member and the only woman in the group. She also joined Toyota's program to develop new drivers.

2018: First NASCAR Win

In January 2018, Hailie Deegan was announced as a full-time driver for Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) in the 2018 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. BMR had won the West Series championship for the past three seasons. She also had a part-time schedule for McAnally in the 2018 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Hailie was the only female driver racing full-time in either K&N Series in 2018.

She made her debut in the East Series race at New Smyrna Speedway in February. She started ninth but had to stop early due to mechanical problems. In March, she made her West Series debut at Kern County Raceway Park, finishing seventh. Kevin Harvick, a NASCAR champion, was impressed with her driving. He said she had "the most potential."

In May, Hailie was named a NASCAR Next class member for the second year in a row. She was again the only woman and the youngest member. She earned her first top-five finish on May 19, placing fourth at Orange Show Speedway.

At Sonoma, Hailie qualified third and finished seventh. This was her sixth top-ten finish in six West Series races. In her next race at Roseburg, she finished second, her best result in the series at that time. This tied the record for the best K&N Pro Series finish by a woman.

At the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Hailie won the pole position for the 2018 Star Nursery 100. This made her the first woman in NASCAR history to win a pole at the K&N level. She led 13 laps and finished second. On September 29, Hailie became the first woman to win a K&N Pro Series race. She won the 2018 NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208 at Meridian Speedway. Hailie passed her teammate Cole Rouse on the final lap to take the win. Her victory was only the second for a woman in a NASCAR touring series race. The first was by Shawna Robinson in the 1980s. Hailie finished the year by winning the Rookie of the Year award for the series.

2019: More K&N and ARCA Debut

Hailie returned to BMR in 2019 for more K&N West and East Series races. At the East season-opening race, she started from pole position due to rain. She led the first six laps but had to stop early again due to a mechanical issue. The West Series season started at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Hailie earned her second K&N Pro Series win there. She made another last-lap pass to win, this time over Jagger Jones.

In March 2019, Hailie announced she would race in six events for Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Menards Series. She made her ARCA debut at Toledo in May. She finished 18th after being in a crash. At Colorado National Speedway, Hailie won her third K&N West race. This win was debated by some because she spun out her teammate, Kraus, on the final lap. Hailie then took pole position at Sonoma but finished eighth.

In August, Hailie raced for the DGR-Crosley team at Bristol. Later that month, at a combined East and West Series race, she finished ninth. She also had a disagreement with veteran driver Todd Souza after they made contact during the race.

Hailie scored her first ARCA top-five finish in October. She finished third in the final championship standings for the 2019 season.

2020: Moving to Ford and Truck Series Debut

At the end of 2019, Hailie switched from Toyota's driver program to Ford's. She signed a full-time ARCA Menards Series contract with DGR-Crosley, which also moved to Ford. She explained that Toyota had too many drivers and not enough team spots. Hailie's father, Brian, said she would focus on ARCA in 2020 to get ready for higher levels of NASCAR.

At the first race of the season at Daytona International Speedway, Hailie had the fastest lap in practice. She finished second in the race, tying the record for the best ARCA finish by a woman. She then had three seventh-place finishes. She finished third at Lucas Oil Raceway, tying the record for best finish by a woman on a short track.

By mid-September, Hailie expressed frustration with ARCA's limited practice and lack of live pit stops due to the pandemic. She said it made it harder for new drivers and for attracting sponsors. She also said the racing in ARCA was "boring" because cars were too spread out. She tied her best ARCA finish with another second-place run at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack. This was the only dirt race of the season. Hailie finished third in the point standings for the season and won the Rookie of the Year award.

On October 7, 2020, DGR-Crosley announced that Hailie would make her NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series debut. She raced the No. 17 Ford at Kansas. She finished 16th, which was the best result for a woman in a Truck Series debut.

In October 2020, Ford Performance announced that Hailie Deegan would drive full-time in the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. She raced for DGR-Crosley, which was renamed David Gilliland Racing. Her truck number, No. 1, was announced in January 2021.

In August, she finished seventh at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. This was her first top-ten finish in the Truck Series outside of a superspeedway.

She ended the season with that top-ten finish and placed 17th in points. Hailie saw her rookie season as a "learning experience." She was voted the 2021 Truck Series Most Popular Driver.

2022: Xfinity Series Debut

On October 4, 2022, Hailie announced she would make her NASCAR Xfinity Series debut. She drove the No. 07 for SS-Green Light Racing at Las Vegas. She finished 13th, which was the best result for a woman in an Xfinity Series debut.

On October 5, 2023, Hailie signed a multi-year deal with AM Racing to drive the No. 15 car starting in 2024. The team had a challenging season. On July 8, AM Racing and Hailie Deegan announced they would part ways.

IMSA Racing

Hailie's move to Ford in 2020 also included racing in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. She raced the 2020 season-opener at Daytona with co-driver Chase Briscoe. They finished 43rd after having mechanical problems. Hailie returned to the series later that year at Laguna Seca.

In 2022, she returned to the Michelin Pilot Challenge at Daytona, again with Chase Briscoe. They placed 24th.

Superstar Racing Experience

In 2021, Hailie joined the new Superstar Racing Experience (SRX). She finished second to Tony Stewart in her first race at Knoxville Raceway. She also raced at Slinger Speedway and Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

She returned to SRX in 2022 for races at Stafford Motor Speedway and I-55 Raceway. In 2023, she competed in six SRX races, earning three top-five finishes.

Open Wheel Racing

Indy NXT Debut

On October 14, 2024, it was announced that Hailie Deegan would race in the Indy NXT series. She joined HMD Motorsports to drive the No. 38 car for the 2025 season. She has competed in eight races so far in the 2025 season.

Driving Style on Track

Hailie Deegan is known for her aggressive moves on the racetrack. All three of her wins in the K&N Pro Series West involved contact with another car. Her last win even saw her spin out her teammate. She has said that she doesn't care what others think and that she is there to win races at any cost. Hailie has embraced her reputation as an aggressive driver, saying it comes from her family's background in motocross.

In 2018, after her first win, she was penalized for contact with another driver. In her ARCA debut in 2019, she finished last after a crash and said she was "done playing nice." Her driving in a K&N West race led to an argument with a veteran driver.

In 2020, during an ARCA race, she was warned for her rough driving. She spun out two cars within the first 70 laps. One incident involved a team owner who said some drivers don't understand the cost of racing.

Personal Life

Hailie Deegan is the daughter of Brian Deegan. Her father is a famous motocross rider, freestyle motocross star, off-road racer, and multiple X Games gold medalist. Her younger brother, Haiden Deegan, is a professional AMA supercross and motocross racer. Her youngest brother, Hudson, also races motocross.

Hailie is in a relationship with dirt track racer and former NASCAR driver Chase Cabre. Chase was her co-driver in the 2022 Mint 400. On October 27, 2023, Hailie announced her engagement to Chase Cabre.
