Where is Hale Center Located?
Hale Center is found on the flat, high plains of the Llano Estacado in central Hale County. It's right where Interstate 27 and Farm to Market Road 1914 meet.
The city is about 11 miles southwest of Plainview. It is also about 33 miles north of Lubbock. Hale Center covers an area of about 1.1 square miles, which is all land.

Hale Center has a semiarid climate. This means it's usually dry, but not a true desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot.
A Look at Hale Center's History
Hale Center was started in 1893. It was formed when two older towns, Hale City and Epworth, joined together. Both of these towns began in 1891. People actually moved buildings from the old towns to the new spot. The new post office was named "Hale Center" because it was in the middle of the county.
On June 2, 1965, a strong tornado hit downtown Hale Center. It destroyed many businesses, the city hall, and the fire station. Five people sadly lost their lives, and 60 others were hurt. The damage to property was about $8 million.
