History of Hamilton
Hamilton was officially started in 1882. This happened when the railroad lines were extended to this area. The city got its name from Hamilton, Ontario, a city in Canada. Many of the first people who settled here came from that Canadian city.
A post office has been open in Hamilton since 1879. This shows that people were living and working here even before the city was formally established.
