The Hamilton Mall is a big shopping center in Mays Landing, New Jersey. It's located in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey, USA. This mall opened in 1987 and has two floors. Its main big store is Macy's. Other large stores like Sears and JCPenney used to be here but are now closed.

The mall is easy to reach because it's near major roads like the Black Horse Pike and U.S. Route 40. It's also close to the Atlantic City Expressway and Atlantic City. This makes it a popular spot for tourists visiting the area. The mall is very large, covering about 1,028,500 sq ft (95,550 m2) of space for stores.

With over 140 stores, Hamilton Mall is the biggest mall in southeastern New Jersey. You can find many restaurants around the mall's parking lot, like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Mall History

Building the Hamilton Mall cost about $100 million. Construction started in November 1985. It was built by Kravco Company and JCP Realty Inc., which is part of JCPenney. The mall opened in September 1987. The Macy's store opened soon after. A special ribbon-cutting event was held with Miss America 1984, Suzette Charles, and TV star Robin Leach. The JCPenney and Sears stores moved to Hamilton Mall from a nearby mall called Shore Mall.

In August 1989, a small shopping area called the "Convenience Center" opened next to the mall. Later, in 1991, a Red Lobster restaurant opened outside the mall. An Olive Garden restaurant also opened in the parking lot in 1995.

Mall Makeovers

In 2004, Hamilton Mall got an $8 million makeover. They removed some fountains, trees, and a carousel to make more room. This allowed for new seating areas with comfy chairs and TVs. The food court also got more seating. The whole mall got new floors, lights, signs, and a fresh color scheme.

From 2004 to 2009, the mall worked to save energy. Many stores changed their lights to use less electricity. In 2009, a new carousel and a fun play area for kids opened on the first floor.

In early 2013, new restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings and Longhorn Steakhouse opened. Also in 2013, the mall added a two-story section for popular stores like H&M and Forever 21. The food court was updated again. It got new paint, seating, flatscreen TVs, and a floor design that looked like a boardwalk. The mall also improved its cooling systems and added new sidewalks and landscaping.

Store Changes

On August 22, 2018, it was announced that Sears would close its doors. It officially closed on November 25, 2018. Then, on February 28, 2019, JCPenney also announced it would close on July 5, 2019. This meant Macy's became the only original big anchor store left. In November 2019, a discount store called Shoppers World opened on the first floor of the old JCPenney space.

Even though the mall lost two big stores, it has managed to stay strong. This is partly because it has more unique, smaller businesses and non-retail places. It's also the only enclosed mall in both Atlantic and Cape May Counties.

In July 2019, the company that owned the mall, Kravco, sold it to Namdar Realty Group. This company buys shopping malls that need some help.
