Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, born on March 3, 2000, is an Indian model and actress. She is famous for winning the title of Miss Universe 2021. She was the third person from India to win this big international beauty contest. Before Miss Universe, Harnaaz won Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019. She also reached the semifinals of the Femina Miss India 2019 pageant.

Early Life and Education
Harnaaz Sandhu was born in a village called Kohali in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, India. Her father, Pritampal Singh Sandhu, works in real estate. Her mother, Rabinder Kaur Sandhu, is a doctor. Harnaaz grew up in a Punjabi Jat Sikh family and has one sibling.
In 2006, she moved to England. Two years later, she came back to India and settled in Chandigarh. She went to Shivalik Public School and the Post Graduate Government College for Girls in Chandigarh. Before becoming Miss Universe, Harnaaz was studying for a master's degree in public administration. She speaks Punjabi, Hindi, and English very well.
Journey to Miss Universe
Harnaaz started her journey in beauty pageants when she was 17. She won Miss Chandigarh 2017, which was a local competition. After that, she took part in the Times Fresh Face Contest 2017 and was the first runner-up. She also won the Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018 title.
She then tried out for the Femina Miss Punjab 2019 contest and won. This win allowed her to compete in the Femina Miss India 2019 pageant.
Femina Miss India 2019
Harnaaz represented the state of Punjab at Femina Miss India 2019. She made it to the top 12 contestants. At the end of the event, Suman Rao from Rajasthan won the title of Femina Miss India World.
Miss Diva 2021
Harnaaz competed in Miss Diva 2021. During the first rounds, she won the Miss Beautiful Skin award. She was also a finalist for other awards like Miss Beach Body and Miss Photogenic.
She became one of the top 10 semifinalists in the main contest. During the opening speech, she shared her journey. She talked about how she grew from a young girl who faced bullying to a strong woman. She wanted to inspire young people.
In the final question and answer round, she was asked about "Global Warming and Climate Change." Harnaaz spoke about how humans have harmed the environment. She said that even small actions by many people can help save the world. She encouraged everyone to start making a difference right away.
After this, Harnaaz was crowned the winner by the previous titleholder, Adline Castelino. This meant she would represent India at Miss Universe 2021.
Miss Universe 2021

Harnaaz Sandhu represented India at Miss Universe 2021 in Eilat, Israel. She won the crown on December 13, 2021. For the national costume round, she wore a beautiful pink royal lehenga.
During the top 5 question round, she was asked about climate change. Harnaaz said that it breaks her heart to see nature suffering because of human actions. She stressed that it's time to act more and talk less to protect our planet.
When she reached the top 3, the host, Steve Harvey, asked her for advice for young women. Harnaaz told them to believe in themselves. She said that everyone is unique and beautiful. She encouraged young women to speak up for themselves and be the leaders of their own lives. She shared that believing in herself helped her reach where she is today.
Harnaaz Sandhu was announced as Miss Universe 2021. She was crowned by the outgoing Miss Universe, Andrea Meza from Mexico.
As Miss Universe, Harnaaz traveled to many places around the world. These included Israel, different cities in the United States, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Africa, Colombia, Thailand, and her home country, India. On January 14, 2023, Harnaaz crowned R'Bonney Gabriel from the United States as the next Miss Universe at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant.
