Harvel is a small village located in the state of Illinois, USA. It's special because it sits across two different counties: Christian County and Montgomery County. In 2020, about 178 people lived there. This number was a bit smaller than in 2010, when 223 people called Harvel home.
Where is Harvel?
Harvel is found in the southwestern part of Christian County and the northern part of Montgomery County. It's almost perfectly split between the two. A main road, Illinois Route 48, also known as Front Street, goes right through the village.
If you travel southwest on Route 48 for about 3.5 miles (5.6 km), you'll reach Raymond. If you head northeast for about 19 miles (31 km), you'll get to Taylorville. Taylorville is the main town, or county seat, for Christian County. The county seat for Montgomery County, Hillsboro, is about 15 miles (24 km) south of Harvel.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that Harvel covers a total area of about 0.72 square miles (1.86 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Harvel's History
Harvel became an official village in 1873. It was named after John Harvel, a respected veteran who fought in the American Civil War.
