Hatboro (also called the Boro) is a small town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. In 2020, about 8,238 people lived there. It's a great place to learn about history and enjoy local parks.

History of Hatboro

Hatboro began on land bought from William Penn around 1705. The first official land sales happened in 1711. Early buildings were put up between 1715 and 1719. The first settlers lived in an area called Crooked Billet.
An early resident, John Dawson, ran the Crooked Billet Inn. He also made hats. Because of this, when the post office opened in 1809, the town was named Hatborough. Later, in 1889, the name was officially changed to Hatboro.
The Union Library Company of Hatboro was started in 1755. It was the third library company in Pennsylvania! This building is still a library today. George Washington and his soldiers marched through Hatboro many times in 1777. They were chasing British troops during the American Revolutionary War. A battle called the Battle of Crooked Billet was fought here in 1778.
In 1811, the Loller Academy was built. This was an important school. The town got its first bank in 1873 and railroad service in 1874.
Some of Hatboro's historic buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Loller Academy, the Roberts and Mander Stove Company Buildings, and the Union Library Company.
Geography and Climate
Hatboro is a small town covering about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers). It is surrounded by Upper Moreland Township, Pennsylvania and Warminster Township, Pennsylvania. The Pennypack Creek flows through the middle of town.

In 2010, the population of Hatboro was mostly White (92.4%). Other groups included Black or African American (2.7%), Asian (1.6%), and Native American (0.3%). About 1.6% of people were of two or more races. Also, 4.3% of the population had Hispanic or Latino family backgrounds.
Parks and Fun in Hatboro
Hatboro has several public parks where you can play and relax. These include Hatboro Memorial Park, Eaton Park, Tanner Park, Miller Meadow, and Celano Park. Blair Mill Park, which has baseball fields for the Hatboro Little League, is also nearby.
The Hatboro Memorial Pool is next to Hatboro Memorial Park. It's open in the summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The pool has a water slide and a special baby pool. You can buy a day pass or a season membership. Hatboro also has its own swim team, called the Hatboro Storm!
Education in Hatboro
Hatboro is part of the Hatboro-Horsham School District. This district also serves Horsham Township. One of the elementary schools, Crooked Billet Elementary School, is right in Hatboro. Other schools, like Keith Valley Middle School and Hatboro-Horsham High School, are located in Horsham Township.
Getting Around Hatboro
Transportation in Hatboro

The main road that goes north and south through Hatboro is Pennsylvania Route 263, also known as York Road. This is the town's main street. Pennsylvania Route 332 starts in Hatboro and goes east. Other important roads include County Line Road and Warminster Road.

SEPTA provides train service to Hatboro at the Hatboro station. This train line, called the Warminster Line, connects Hatboro to Warminster and Center City Philadelphia. SEPTA also has a bus, Route 22, that runs along York Road.
You can find parking in downtown Hatboro using parking meters on the street or in public parking lots. There's also a special parking lot for people who take the train near the Hatboro station.
Utilities in Hatboro
Electricity and natural gas in Hatboro are provided by PECO Energy Company. Water comes from Aqua Pennsylvania. The Upper Moreland-Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority handles sewage services.
