What Makes Hato Puerco Special?
Hato Puerco Arriba is home to a cool spot called the Mirador Orocovis-Villalba. This name means "Orocovis-Villalba Lookout" in English. From here, you can see amazing views of the Cordillera Central. This is a big mountain range that runs through the middle of Puerto Rico.
A Look at Hato Puerco's History
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This happened because of a deal called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,496 people lived in the Hato Puerco Arriba barrio at that time.
