Haut-Ogooué is a province located in the southeast of Gabon, a country in Central Africa. It is one of Gabon's nine provinces, which are like large regions or states within a country. The province gets its name from the Ogooué River, a major river in Gabon.
Haut-Ogooué covers a large area of about 36,547 square kilometers (about 14,111 square miles). Its capital city is Franceville. One of the most important activities in this province is mining. People dig for valuable minerals like manganese, gold, and uranium here. There's even a special mineral called francevillite, which contains uranium and was named after the city of Franceville.
This region is also historically important for three different cultures: the Obamba, Ndzebi, and Téké people. Over time, many people have moved from smaller villages to bigger cities in the province. In August 2006, the province's soccer team won the Gabon Independence Cup, a big sports event in the country.
