Hawkinsville is a city in Georgia, United States. It's the main town, or county seat, of Pulaski County. In 2020, about 3,980 people lived there.
Hawkinsville is famous as the "Harness Horse Capital" of Georgia. The city owns a special training place called the Lawrence Bennett Harness Horse Racing facility. Horses train here during the winter. Every April, the Harness Festival celebrates the end of the training season. After that, the horses travel north for racing.

History of Hawkinsville
Hawkinsville was started in 1830. A few years later, in 1837, it became the county seat for Pulaski County. This meant it was the main town where the county government was located. The community was named after Benjamin Hawkins. He was an important person who worked with Native American groups in the Southeast. President George Washington appointed him to this role.
The city has Hawkinsville High School and many interesting historical sites. These include the Hawkinsville City Hall-Auditorium, the Hawkinsville Public School, and the Pulaski County Courthouse. There's also the historic Hawkinsville Opera House.
After the American Civil War, the St. Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church was formed. This church was part of a big movement. Missionaries from the first independent Black church in the U.S. helped start hundreds of similar churches in the South.
Geography and Climate
Hawkinsville is a place where many main roads meet. U.S. Routes 129 and 341 are the two most important highways. They both go through the downtown area.
The city covers about 5.38 square miles (13.93 square kilometers) of land. Only a very small part is water.
