The Hayden Homes Amphitheater is a cool outdoor concert place located in the historic Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon. It's named after Hayden Homes, a company that builds houses in Central Oregon. Before, it was called the Les Schwab Amphitheater, named after a businessman from Central Oregon named Les Schwab.
It opened in 2002 and can hold about 8,000 people for concerts and other fun events. It's a relaxed outdoor spot right by the Deschutes River. The amphitheater is about 3,600 feet (1,097 meters) above sea level.
About the Amphitheater
The Hayden Homes Amphitheater was built in 2001 and opened its doors in 2002. It was first named the Les Schwab Amphitheater to honor Les Schwab, who founded the well-known tire company.
Many famous artists have performed here over the years. Some of them include Coldplay, Willie Nelson, the Beach Boys, Jack Johnson, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, and the Dave Matthews Band. It has also hosted other big events, like the Bend Brewfest.
In 2016, Sunset Magazine chose the venue as one of the top four "Best Outdoor Music Venues" in the Western United States. This award celebrates outdoor concert spots that music lovers really enjoy.
In 2020, the amphitheater got some upgrades to host even bigger shows. It reopened in 2021 with new seating areas and a better design for watching concerts. In November 2021, its name changed to Hayden Homes Amphitheater. This was because Hayden Homes, a local home builder, had supported the venue for a long time.
Bill Smith, who helped develop the Old Mill District, said that Hayden Homes shares the same values. He felt it was the right choice to pass the naming rights to them.
How the Amphitheater Helps the Local Economy
A study in 2015 looked at how the Hayden Homes Amphitheater helps the economy in Central Oregon. Here are some interesting facts:
- About 125,000 visitors came to the venue, bringing an estimated $27 million to the area.
- Most visitors (75%) who came from out of town said they came just for a concert.
- These out-of-town concertgoers stayed for about 3.4 nights on average.
- Most of them (74%) stayed in hotels or other places in Bend. The rest stayed in nearby towns like Redmond, Sunriver, and Sisters.
- Concert visitors spent nearly $19 million in Central Oregon. This money went to things like dining, shopping, lodging, and gas.
- Visitors who came specifically for the concerts spent about $16 million on their trips.
