Leyla Hazal Kaya (born October 1, 1990) is a famous Turkish actress. She is well-known for her main roles in popular TV shows. These include Aşk-ı Memnu (2008–2010), Adını Feriha Koydum (2011–2012), and Bizim Hikaye (2017–2019).
Hazal Kaya is one of the highest-paid actresses in Turkey. She has won many awards for her acting. She was also the only Turkish person to receive the "Lebanon Awards 2015". Her first acting job was a small role in the TV series Acemi Cadı. She became very popular playing Nihal Ziyagil in Aşk-ı Memnu. This show was based on a famous novel.
She is also famous for playing Feriha Sarrafoglu in Adını Feriha Koydum. For this role, she won the 2nd Crystal Mouse Media Award for Best Actress. This TV series was one of the most-watched shows in Turkey. Later, she played Filiz Elibol in Bizim Hikaye (2017–2019). This show was inspired by the British TV series Shameless. Her performance in Bizim Hikaye was highly praised.
More recently, Kaya played the main character Esra / Peride in the time travel historical drama series Midnight at the Pera Palace (2022). This show is available on Netflix. Hazal Kaya married actor Ali Atay in 2019. They have two children together.

Early Life and Education
Hazal Kaya was born in Konya, Turkey. She went to Gaziosmanpaşa elementary school. In 2009, she graduated from the Liceo Italiano di Istanbul. She then went to Istanbul Bilgi University for her higher education.
Her parents were both lawyers. They divorced when she was 7 years old. Hazal started learning about art and acting at a very young age. As a child, she took ballet and violin lessons for seven years. Hazal Kaya speaks Italian and English very well. Her native language is Turkish. She has also been learning German.
Acting Career Highlights
Early Roles (2006–2011)
Hazal Kaya began her acting career in 2006. Her first TV series was Genco, where she played Özge. She also had guest roles in other shows. These included the fantasy series Acemi Cadı (like the Turkish version of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"), Sıla, and "Taşların Sırrı".
In 2008, Kaya played Nihal Ziyagil in Aşk-ı Memnu. This show was a modern version of a novel by Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil. She acted alongside famous stars like Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ and Beren Saat. Her first movie role was in Selçuk Aydemir's film Çalgı Çengi in 2011. During this time, she also took acting lessons from famous teachers like Ayla Algan and Ümit Çırak.
Becoming a Star (2011–2016)
Hazal Kaya's career really took off when she starred in Adını Feriha Koydum (2011). She played the main character, Feriha Yilmaz. Feriha was a porter's daughter who lived two different lives. She fell in love with a rich and handsome student, Emir Sarrafoğlu (Çağatay Ulusoy). This series was very popular in Turkey and received great reviews.
In late 2012, she left Adını Feriha Koydum. She then starred in a new series called Son Yaz Balkanlar 1912. She played Emine, but this show ended quickly because it didn't get high ratings. In 2013, she appeared in the series A.Ş.K. as Azra Özak, a tennis coach. This series also ended after 13 episodes. In 2015, she played the main character Maral Erdem in Maral: En Güzel Hikayem, acting with Aras Bulut İynemli.
Established Actress (2017–Present)
After a one-year break, Hazal Kaya returned to TV in Bizim Hikaye (Our Story) in 2017. This show was the Turkish version of the American TV series Shameless. In Bizim Hikaye, Kaya played Filiz Elibol Aktan. Filiz was a young girl who had to take care of her five younger siblings after her mother left. She acted opposite Burak Deniz.
Her performance as Filiz was highly praised and called "remarkable". She won several awards, including Best Actress at the 19th Internet Media Best of the Year Awards. She also won Best Series Pair with Burak Deniz at the Latina Turkish Awards. The series was shown in many different languages around the world.
In 2021, she starred in the TV series Misafir. This show was based on the Japanese TV series Oasis. Since 2010, she has also appeared as Berna, Behzat's daughter, in some episodes and a movie of the crime series Behzat Ç..
Personal Life
Hazal Kaya married actor Ali Atay on February 6, 2019. They welcomed their son later that year. Their daughter was born in February 2023.
In the Media
Hazal Kaya is known as one of Turkey's highest-paid actresses. In 2014, she was named one of the "most influential names in the world" by Ichaps. She received an international excellence medal for artists.
A survey by MBC channels in the United Arab Emirates ranked her 4th among the most admired Turkish women artists. Surveys from 35 countries between 2010 and 2015 placed her 6th on the list of 10 most popular actresses. She was also the only Turkish person to receive the "Lebanon Awards 2015". By May 2016, she had risen to number five on the list of most popular actresses. The website World's Most Beautifuls ranked her fifth among the 10 most beautiful women of 2016.
