Beren Saat (born 26 February 1984) is a famous Turkish actress. She has been praised for her acting and has won many awards since she started her career. While studying at Başkent University, she joined an acting competition called Türkiye'nin Yıldızları. There, a Turkish director named Tomris Giritlioğlu discovered her. This helped her begin her professional acting journey.
Beren Saat first acted in a small role in the TV series Aşkımızda Ölüm Var (2004). Later, Tomris Giritlioğlu helped her get her first big role in Aşka Sürgün (2005–2006). She then played a strong character named Yasemin Ünsal in the political series Hatırla Sevgili (2006–2008). She became known around the world for her role as Bihter Yöreoğlu Ziyagil in the romantic series Aşk-ı Memnu (2008–2010). For this role, she received much praise and won many awards, including two Golden Butterfly Awards.
Her movie career started with the drama film Güz Sancısı (2009). She also appeared in Gecenin Kanatları (2009), Rhino Season (2012), and Benim Dünyam (2013). From 2015 to 2016, she played the main character, Kösem Sultan, in the historical drama series Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem. Between 2019 and 2021, Saat had the main role in the Netflix series The Gift.
Beren Saat was the highest-paid actress in Turkey from 2008 to 2014. She has also lent her voice to several movies as a voice actor. In 2010, the Radikal newspaper named her Actress of the Year. Besides acting, Saat is also known for her charity work. She married singer Kenan Doğulu in 2014.

Early Life
Beren Saat was born on 26 February 1984 in Ankara, Turkey. Her parents, Ayla and Hüseyin Avni Saat, both studied sports. She has a brother named Cem Saat. Beren grew up in Ankara and went to TED Ankara College Foundation Private High School. She also briefly attended Başkent University before becoming an actress.
With help from her college friends, she joined an acting competition called Türkiye'nin Yıldızları. She came in second place. After that, she appeared in TV commercials for Tofita. A famous director, Tomris Giritlioğlu, noticed her talent. Beren then got her first role in the series Aşkımızda Ölüm Var.

Early Roles and Big Success (2004–2008)
In 2004, Beren played Nermin in the TV series Aşkımızda Ölüm Var. In 2005, she got a main role as Zilan Şahvar Azizoğlu in Aşka Sürgün. This show was produced by Tomris Giritlioğlu.
In 2006, she starred as Yasemin Ünsal in the popular series Hatırla Sevgili. This show was about political events from the 1950s to the 1970s. Beren became very famous across Turkey because of this role. Her co-star, Cansel Elçin, even called her a "super artist." In 2007, Saat made a guest appearance in an episode of the series Avrupa Yakası.
Later, in 2008, she took on a main role as Bihter Yöreoğlu Ziyagil in Aşk-ı Memnu (meaning Forbidden Love). This romantic drama was based on a famous novel. Beren shared the main roles with Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Selçuk Yöntem, and Nebahat Çehre. The show was very popular and became one of the most watched TV series in Turkish history. Many people watched the final episode, which was called "Veda" (Farewell). Critics highly praised Beren Saat's acting in the final episode. After the show was shown around the world, Beren Saat became famous internationally, especially in the Middle East and Europe. Movies and New TV Series (2009–2012)
Güz Sancısı (Pains of Autumn) was Beren's first full-length movie in 2009. She also acted in the film Gecenin Kanatları (Wings of the Night), where she played a character named Gece. In 2010, she voiced Barbie in the Turkish version of the popular animated movie Toy Story 3.
In the summer of 2010, Beren became the face of the chips brand Patos. She appeared in many commercials for them, and sales of Patos chips went up by 45%. In the same year, Saat also appeared in advertisements for Rexona deodorant.
In 2010, Saat starred in the series Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne?. This show was based on a movie from 1986. Beren's co-star in this series was Engin Akyürek, who she knew from the Türkiye'nin Yıldızları competition. The series was very popular and had high ratings. After the show was broadcast in many countries, Beren Saat's face appeared on magazine covers worldwide. For her role in this series, she was nominated for an Antalya Television Award.
In 2012, Saat acted in her third film, Rhino Season, directed by Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi. She played Buse, the daughter of a character played by Monica Bellucci. The movie was first shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. In September of the same year, Beren also voiced Merida in the Turkish version of the animated movie Brave.
New Challenges and Historical Roles (2013–2016)
In late 2012, Beren Saat started filming the series İntikam, which was based on the American show Revenge. She took special lessons to improve her fighting skills for the role. The show started in January 2013, and Beren played the character Derin Çelik/Yağmur Özden. Her acting and even her clothing style were much talked about.
In the summer of 2013, Saat took the main role in the movie Benim Dünyam (My World). This film was based on the 2005 Indian movie Black. Beren shared the main role with Uğur Yücel and played Ela Bayındır. She played a character who was blind, deaf, and unable to speak. An American website even named Beren Saat as one of the world's "stars" for her performance. Also in 2013, she became the face of the "Duru Perfume Duş Jeli" brand.
In 2014, it was announced that Beren Saat would play the famous historical figure Kösem Sultan in the new TV series Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem. She joined the series from episode 7 and stayed for the first season. Her co-stars included Hülya Avşar and Mete Horozoğlu. In July 2015, Beren and her husband, Kenan Doğulu, appeared in an advertisement for Arçelik. In the same month, she voiced Scarlet Overkill in the Turkish version of the movie Minions. Her husband, Kenan Doğulu, also voiced Scarlet Overkill's husband, Herb Overkill, in the film.
Netflix Series (2019–Present)
From 2019 to 2021, Saat starred in the Netflix original series The Gift. In this show, she played the main character, Atiye, an artist who finds ancient secrets in Anatolia. The series started on 27 December 2019. BBC even listed it as one of the top 10 recommended series for December 2019. Critics praised the acting of everyone in the show, including Beren Saat. The second season was released in September 2020, and the third and final season came out in June 2021.
Personal Life
Beren Saat started dating singer Kenan Doğulu in February 2012. They got engaged on 23 February 2014 in Istanbul. They then married on 29 July 2014 in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, California, in the United States.
Charity Work
Beren Saat has been involved in many social projects. In 2011, she became the face of the deodorant brand Rexona. She donated all the money she earned from this to "Mor Çatı," a foundation that helps women. In 2012, she designed T-shirts for Elle magazine. Most of the money from selling these T-shirts went to the "Pomegranate Seeds Project," which helps educate young orphan girls.
In December 2012, she appeared on a calendar to raise money for children with leukemia. The money from selling these calendars was given to the "Health and Education Foundation for Children with Leukemia." Saat also supported a project by the European Union and Afghanistan's Ministry of Health to help women have healthy childbirths in Afghanistan.
In September 2014, Beren Saat lent her voice to an advertisement for the "Baba Beni Okula Gönder" (Daddy Send Me to School) campaign. In October 2014, during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she took part in a special event at Abdi İpekçi Arena to raise awareness. In the same month, Saat and other celebrities joined the "Gençliğe Hitabe" program to speak to young people with hearing disabilities using sign language. She also spoke out about the challenges women face in Turkey.
