Early Life and Start in Entertainment
Hebe Camargo was born in Taubaté, Brazil, on March 8, 1929. Her parents were of Portuguese background. She started her career as a singer in the 1940s. She sang sambas and boleros with her sister, Estela. They were known as Rosalinda e Florisbela.
Later, Hebe decided to focus more on radio and television. She was even invited to the very first live TV broadcast in Brazil! This happened in Sumaré, São Paulo.
A Long and Successful Career
Hebe Camargo also acted in comedy films. She appeared with famous actors like Mazzaropi and Agnaldo Rayol. In the 1950s, she began working in television as a presenter. She hosted a series on TV Paulista.
In 1955, Hebe hosted O Mundo é das Mulheres (The World Belongs to Women). This was the first TV show for women in Brazil. It aired five times a week in Rio de Janeiro.
Moving to New Networks
In the 1960s, Hebe moved to the Rede Record network. There, she had a very popular show for many years. On Easter Sunday, April 10, 1966, she started a new Sunday program. On this show, Hebe interviewed many different people.
Hebe Camargo was seen on almost every television station in Brazil. This included Rede Record and Rede Bandeirantes in the 1970s and 1980s.
Her Famous Show: Hebe
In 1980, Hebe returned to TV as an interviewer after a break. From March 1986 to December 2010, Hebe worked at the SBT Network. There, she hosted her own show called Hebe. This program became one of the longest-running shows on the network.
The Hebe show was also broadcast on Rede Tupi and Rede Bandeirantes. It even had a spin-off show called Hebe por Elas (Hebe for Them) in the early 1990s. Hebe also hosted other shows and participated in special TV events.
In 1995, a CD of Hebe's greatest hits was released. On Easter Saturday, April 22, 2006, she celebrated her one thousandth program on SBT.
Illness and Passing
Hebe Camargo faced health challenges starting in 2010. She was diagnosed with cancer. After surgery and treatment, she returned to work on her 81st birthday in 2010.
Hebe passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012. She was at her home in São Paulo.
